What's the big idea?
Dr. William "Brit" Kirwan will provide the context for Pillar 3 and the vision of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. Take time to think about the big picture and place the work within a broader context.
What are the expectations so far?
Rachael Stephens Parker, Executive Director of the Governor’s Workforce Development Board, will facilitate a conversation about expectations, current status and updates. Hear from the MWA, MSDE, AIB, and Community Colleges. Set your mind at ease about how far along you should be at this phase. Kirkland Murray, Dr. Deann Collins, Rachel Hise, and Dave Harper, PhD.
What is everyone doing?
John Hickman, and Jess Iacona from BEACON Salisbury University will present an overview of implementation and trends across the state so far. Consider possible indicators of implementation and how to measure success. They are running a great session later to keep the conversation going!

What does that look like in the real world?
Steve Regur, EdD will faciliate a conversation with three different implementation models. Hear about the real world challenges and solutions from MoCo, the Upper Shore, and Frederick County. John Hattery, Dr. Genevieve FLoyd, Dan Schneckenburger, and .Kara Fritz.
Lisa Bishop and Brittany Stephens will provide an overview of the newest state agency as well as its new Maryland Corps/Service Year Option Program. The program, created by the Serving Every Region through Vocational Exploration (SERVE) Act in 2023, provides full-time service opportunities for Marylanders 18 and older. Members receive at least $15/hour, on the job training, mentorship, a $6,000 Program Completion Award, and more. The application for people to serve as Members and to be Host Site Partners in year two is now live here.

Expand your strategies and techniques to help students envision their best possible selves. We will explore these best practices in greater detail in the breakout session. So much fun!

Discuss how the pieces fit together to best serve students. How does career advising work with CTE pathways, college readiness, work-based learning opportunities, and other initiatives to help all middle and high school students explore their options?

Investigate practical approaches to promoting career conversations through the K-16 system. How does the workforce board, LEA, and community college work together? How do career advisors connect with teachers, counselors, administrators, and outside partners?
