WHAT ARE THE BENCHMARKS?

A Practical Approach to Building the Capacity in Students to Pursue Career Readiness Initiatives... Making Career Curiosity Normal.

Vision

Our vision is to transform schools into communities where career connected learning is a normal part of everyday learning, empowering students to better understand themselves, expand their options, and pursue future possibilities.

Mission

The entire school community (staff, teachers, families, partners, and students) works together so students are fully prepared for a lifetime of learning, productive work, and responsible citizenship—in ways that are consistent with each individual’s special interests, strengths, and workplace values.

Teachers, families, and community partners work together to continuously engage in career conversations with students, using a common career language.

Students see how their school experience connects who they are with who they want to be through a common career language to develop their career identity through ongoing career conversations.

Every day in classrooms across the country, something powerful is happening — and it’s not a new program. It’s a shift in how students and teachers talk about learning. We call it Benchmark 1: weaving career conversations into everyday instruction. When educators use a shared language and ask one well-timed question, students start seeing themselves in their learning and in the future they’re building.

BENCHMARK 2 | Career connected learning is ongoing

What does it take to be truly career ready? Schools invest time in dashboards, graduation requirements, pathways, and profiles meant to prepare students for what comes next. What does it take to be truly career ready? Schools invest time in dashboards, graduation requirements, pathways, and profiles meant to prepare students for what comes next. But is career readiness a state of being or a state of mind? If a student cannot name it and claim it, does it really exist? After four months in classrooms from Maryland to California, the most powerful readiness moments came from conversations that helped students connect, dream, and take action. That is the heart of Benchmark 2: career conversations are ongoing, and they create the momentum for everything else.
